Known as
one the rarest and important artefacts of ancient art, the coin silver
decadrachm of Acragas is up for auction by Numismatica Ars Classica in Zurich.
Described as being the notable masterpiece of ancient art this amazing artefact
is expected to fetch a whopping $1.8 million. Notably, the sale will be
comprised of a total of 411 coins which were in the collection of Hunts and
Archer M. Huntington. This prestigious collection along with the famous silver
Greek coin, that was crafted before the Carthaginian invasion in 406 B.C., is
expected to garner about $6,3 million. However, this is not the first time the
coin has made a record at the auction block. Back in 1990, it was sold
for around 749850Euro ($1,000,000).
Some of the
world’s most expensive coins, include the rare $3 gold coin found in a book
which was expected to sell for $4 million, the 1873 US dime which sells for
$1.6 million, a rare 1793 penny which sells for over $1 million, and the
historic 1792 Silver Center cent which was expected to fetch 749.850 Euro
($1,000,000).
