France is a
place which has so many old castles that they’re actually selling at remarkably
low prices now.
Take this
impressive estate set in the town of Blois, 114 miles south-west of Paris. The
17th century property would be great as the backdrop for a historical period
drama set a few hundred years. It’s actually an entire compound spread across
98 acres with multiple buildings, the most notable being of course the
13,455-square-foot chateau, which has been carefully restored over the last
three years.
The
interiors, reminiscent of the great palaces from the time of King Louis XIV,
feature Versailles parquet flooring and marble fireplaces, while the ceiling
are decorated with molded cornices. There are no fewer than 14 bedrooms, as
well as many more sitting rooms, bathrooms, studies, and a well-equipped
kitchen. Finally, the property, which is entirely walled, also includes the
former caretaker’s lodge, chapel, sizeable garages, a woodshed, stables with
tack room, a barn, and extensive gardens dating back to 1755.
This
charming, recently restored Blois Castle is currently listed for €5.5 million,
or about $6.8 million.
