A Synthesis of Intelligence and Emotion.
Described as the Ultimate in Contemporary Luxury. The Vision Mercedes Maybach 6 is an
electric- powered super luxurious coupe.
Historically, the annual Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance
has been a showcase for exquisite vintage cars. In recent years, though, the
event has also become an opportunity for automakers to tout their brand’s
vision. And so far, this year has been no exception. In the lead-up to the
show, which takes place Sunday, carmakers have been rolling out their latest
concept cars. Last night in Carmel, California, Mercedes-Benz unveiled the
latest in its Maybach line: the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6.
The car gets its name
for its six-meter length (20 feet). For perspective, that’s two and a half feet
longer than the Cadillac Escala, a four-door sedan unveiled at an event not far
from the Mercedes-Benz ceremony. Yet, the Maybach 6 is not a sedan. Rather,
it’s a two-door coupĂ©, making its length an even bolder design choice. The
concept car is all-electric, with a battery located underneath the vehicle
(similar to the way that Teslas are constructed).
The Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 is equipped with 750
horsepower, meaning the car can go from zero to 60 m.p.h. in less than four
seconds. The exterior features an exaggerated hood, a low roofline, a split
rear window, and wing doors that flip up instead of out, unlike traditional
vehicles.
The interior includes all the modern amenities and
technologies one would expect for a futuristic car built by a luxurious brand
such as Mercedes-Benz (including a digital overlay on the windshield that shows
driving-related information). Yet it has the brand’s old-fashioned charm as
well, evoked by the leather seats and elm wood trim.
The German carmaker didn’t say when exactly consumers can
expect to drive a vehicle like the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6. Yet, given the
rapid technological advancements of the auto sector, some are speculating that it
could be on the road within the next decade.
