Presidential Suite The Raffles Singapore

Named for the most important personalities of the Raffles, the pair of Presidential Suites is the grandest offerings in the hotel. The Sarkies and Sir Stamford Raffles Suites are located in the main building and overlook the driveway. Architecturally stunning, each is bedecked with antiques and artworks throughout its parlour, dining room and two bedrooms.

The Sarkies Suite

The Sarkies Suite, evoking the romance of history, is inspired by the early Colonial bungalows of the 1920s. Among the treasures found inside are a six by four metres carpet handwoven in Iran in the 1930s, Tiffany & Co Audubon silver flatware and matching china, and two early twentieth century Cantonese blackwood recliners.

The suite is named after the family who established Raffles Hotel and ran it until the early 1930s. Hailing from Armenia, it was also the proprietors of the Eastern & Oriental Hotel in Penang, Malaysia and The Strand in Rangoon, Myanmar.

The Sir Stamford Raffles Suite

From a French colonial table, to a coffee table from the early twentieth century finely inlaid with mother-of-pearl scenes, the Sir Stamford Raffles Suite has no shortage of its own treasures either. Equally valuable are a selection of prints from Sir Stamford Raffles’ scholarly History of Java, published in London in 1870.

As the founder of modern Singapore, Sir Stamford Raffles is an apt person to name this suite after. The East India Company Officer is much revered for his foresight and talents, including those as a zoologist and historian, for which he received a knighthood.
