Ready to explore São Paulo in high style? The big, bold
Hotel Unique is an ambitious architectural wonder in South America’s biggest
city, packed with decadent delight for glamorous grown-ups, from the ruby-red
rooftop pool to the oversized porthole bedroom windows.
There’s nothing standard, nothing subdued about Hotel
Unique. Brazilian architect Ruy Ohtake’s green copper-clad masterpiece looks
like a futuristic Noah’s Ark – portholes included. From the moment you arrive
at this lavish landmark in São Paulo, it’s drama all the way.
João Armentano’s interiors are whimsical and wonderful, from
the reception – a lofty, light-flooded atrium strewn with sofas and modern art
– to the trendy lobby bar whose centrepiece is a black, 18-metre high wall
bedecked with rows of artfully placed bottles. The high-tech, high-style
apartments are predominantly white with Jacuzzis and remote-controlled drapes.
And the location is equally chic in the fashionable Jardins neighbourhood, home
to luxury boutiques, hip bars and art galleries.
Even the members of staff at Unique are stylish gurus decked
out in creations by Brazilian fashion designer Alexandre Herchcovitch. They’re
on hand to serve you Champagne at check-in and lead you to rooms and suites
kitted out with über-special touches such as Havaianas slippers. But the jewel
in the crown is the sexy rooftop Skye Restaurant and Bar helmed by French
celebrity Chef Emmanuel Bassoleil. At 25 metres high, it has the best views in
town, not to mention a red-tiled, 24-metre pool that, come Fashion Week, throngs
with the front-row flash pack.
