A 19th-century castle perched on a quiet hillside overlooking the Bay of Pampelonne.
Saint-Tropez’s reputation for glitz and glamour is well deserved: glossy super-yachts clog the old fishing harbor; exotic supercars—bright as tropical fish—whip down dusty narrow streets; and the parties are nothing short of epic and all but everlasting. The luxurious hotels follow suit: there’s no shortage of bar-raising hotel hotspots to choose from on a jaunt to this legendary beach town, but this summer there’s a brand-new contender. Introducing Airelles Saint-Tropez, Château de la Messardière, a rosé-pink, the fairytale castle of a hotel perched on the garrigue-carpeted hills overlooking the sparkling Pampelonne Bay and the Bay of Saint-Tropez.Built as a wedding present for famed horseman Henry Brisson
de la Messardière and his young artist wife, Louise Dupuy d’Anjeac in 1904,
Château de la Messardière’s current iteration dates back to 1989 when it was
restored and expanded by architecture Jean-Claude Rochette, Head of Historical
Monuments, and then transformed into an independently owned luxury hotel in
1990, before opening up as part of the prestigious Airelles collection of
hotels just this summer.
Château de la Messardière is a 5-star palace hotel located
in Saint‑Tropez in the Var region, spanning both Provence and
the French Riviera. The palace is Saint‑Tropez’s
largest hotel with 108 rooms and suites. Its 25-acres of manicured grounds are
a haven for birdlife, being officially recognized as a French Bird Protection
League and Birdlife International ornithological reserve. Château de la
Messardière is home to five food and drinks outlets including gourmet restaurant
L’Acacia, serving creative Mediterranean-style cuisine with its terrace
boasting beautiful coastal views; A Ciel Ouvert, serving seasonal lunchtime
dishes in a laidback atmosphere by the pool; Le Soleil d'Eau bar and terrace
for relaxed aperitifs and Fillmore Bar on the Château’s terrace for sunset
cocktails, dim-sum and live DJ sets. Just a stones’ throw from Château de la
Messardière is its glamourous beach club Jardin Tropézina on the famous beach
of Pampelonne.
Guests venturing into town are also invited to enjoy creative Italian cuisine from the highly acclaimed chef Marco Garfagnini at sister restaurant Zetta, located in the heart of St Tropez between the port and Place des Lices and the ever-popular DolceVa, now located in hotel Pan Dei Palais.
